Museum complex “Tower of David”
A high tower of white stone is visible from almost anywhere in Jerusalem. This is the only of the three ancient observation towers that has survived to this day. In the time of Herod I the Great, the tower was called “Fasail”. The fortress was repeatedly destroyed during numerous wars, and all buildings on its territory were rebuilt. The fortress acquired its present appearance in the 16th century during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. It was then that the observation tower was rebuilt into a minaret. The Ottomans believed that the palace of King David was previously located on this place, and the whole complex of buildings was named after him. Now the “Tower of David” is an interesting archaeological park where you can see the buildings of several eras. Continue reading
